During pregnancy, there are many physiological and endocrinological changes that are occurring in your body in preparation for your baby. During pregnancy a woman’s center of gravity shifts forward putting extra pressure on her joints, increasing the curvature of her lumbar spine and placing extra pressure on the spinal discs. In our office we see women in all stages of pregnancy for low back pain, rib pain, pubic bone pain, round ligament pain, leg pains, irritation to the sciatic nerve, proper pelvic balance for delivery and more. Chiropractic care during your pregnancy is essential to ensure that you have the most ideal environment for your child to develop in, and to help ensure that mom and baby are comfortable leading up to and during labor and delivery. Chiropractic care has been shown to significantly reduce the length of time a woman labor and delivery. Adjustments can result in easier pregnancy, and significantly decreased mean labor time. First time moms averaged a 24 percent shorter labor, while mothers who have already given birth experienced a 39% reduction in the average labor length, compared to controls (Fallon, 1991).
Many physical complaints arise from injuries sustained in sports. Understanding the biomechanical principles involved in specific sports helps us to prevent injury and restore functional integrity and stability through rehabilitation. Chiropractors manage sports injuries for all participation levels and ages. Using advanced techniques, appropriately applied for the age of each patient. Some of these injuries will require a rehabilitation program to ensure that the cause is correctly managed and that the injury is completely resolved and therefore less likely to return.
Soft Tissue Therapy
Long-term chronic injuries may require the application of specific types of soft tissue therapy to restore proper function to the body.
Active Release Technique (ART) is a technique used to treat soft tissue and movement problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension from the doctor’s hand with very specific patient movements. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves responded to different types of work, treating doctors are able to get great results treating a vast array of conditions. Some common conditions that can be treated with ART are headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow. ART is a great treatment option for over-use injuries.
At Loyola Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractors will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your problem. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? Well, physical problems and nutritional problems are the predominant causes of most diseases.
